Dale Cardin, down in Louisiana, has owned many sport
quads, but he says his 1985 Honda ATC250R will still out-run
them all. Yep, it’s tough to beat a 250 two-stroke, especially
with an FMF pipe.
Here are two of Rich Dempsey’s favorite Hondas, an ’ 85
ATC250R and ’ 86 ATC350X. He also has an ’08 700XX and
likes that too. Rich has been a long-time Dirt Wheels reader
since the old days, and we appreciate that.
Up in Canada, Austin Barrett still rides this 1981 Honda
250R. The cylinder has been ported with a DG head and pipe,
Boyesen reeds and spacer. The carb and front forks are off
an ’ 85 250R, and it has a Cal Fab + 6 swingarm and larger
plastic fuel tank.
It took Bobby Witherow 30 years, but he finally got a Honda
ATC350X. The Virginia rider has already improved his pride
and joy with a new exhaust system and modern heel guards.
Here’s Shane Walker’s 1985 Honda ATC350X right after he
gave it a total rebuild from the ground up. Now it should last
another 30 years with no problems.
Nac’s Racing was one of the biggest suppliers of two-stroke
parts back in the day. Those graphics on Heath Barrett’s ’ 86
Honda TRX250R here give it a classic look. It’s also been
ported and has a 38mm Striker carb and FMF pipe.
