❏ Putting together a true classic UTV gathering
like the SxS Adventure Rally (SXSAR) requires a
perfect storm of events that must connect. You
have to have a great location, and the Sand Hollow
is a truly great one. The relatively new, sprawling,
20,000-acre park rests mostly on USDI Bureau of
Land Management (BLM) land. It is already one of
the most visited destinations in the Utah State Park
system, with recreation opportunities for nearly every
user—from boaters to bikers. For UTV enthusiasts, the
unique combination of red sand dunes mixed in with
sandstone slick rock trails is the big draw. It doesn’t
hurt that all of this OHV goodness is located on the
shore of a 1,322-acre man-made lake.
Sand Hollow is located approximately 15 miles
east of St. George and seven miles east of the I- 15
Hurricane exit. It opened to the public as a state park
in 2003. Roughly 6000 acres of the 20,000-acre park
is open for OHV use.
This combination makes Sand Hollow a visual
masterpiece, but strong organizers also help. The
brains behind Moab’s legendary Rally on the Rocks
got together with the promoters of the World Off-Road Championship Series, so even the organization
