WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Back in 2003, Doug Gust raced the
ATV Motocross Nationals on a very
special machine put together by
Suzuki’s factory racing team. It started out as a Z400, but there were only
a few stock parts on it. Everything
was modified to make it as fast as
possible. It was basically the developmental stepping stone of what the
LTR450 later turned out to be. Where
is this famous quad now? Is it in
some museum for humble viewers
to marvel at with awe? Nope, it’s still
being ridden on a regular basis by a
normal ATV enthusiast just like you.
Dylan Merritt in Florida was able to
get his hands on Doug’s exotic Z, and
he says it’s still a very fast quad.
ATV VACATION DESTINATION
The resort that hosted our test of
the Polaris Ace 570 in the December
issue is worth looking into for a
vacation spot next summer. Zion
Ponderosa Ranch in Mt. Carmel,
Utah, has ATV activities for all ages,
including rides, rentals, trails and a
small oval flat track. Just off the property, which is basically on the edge of
Zion National Park, are some of the
most scenic trails in the state of Utah.
Lodging is available, from tent or
dorm styles all the way up to private,
fully furnished cabins that can hold
your entire family. Other activities
include rock climbing, horseback rid-
ing, swimming and hiking. Visit them
YAMAHA’S NEW 2015 TRI-FZ 450?
Nope, sorry, but this is a Yamaha
WR426 dirt bike with a three-wheeler
conversion. It’s owned by Derrick
Adams, and here he is pitching it
sideways at Summit Indoor MX in
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. If Yamaha
were to start making three-wheelers
again, it’d probably look something
like Derrick’s machine here. He sure
seems to be having fun riding it.
