After the stock seat belts are removed,
the installation of the DragonFire
Racing harness bar fits snugly between
the B-pillars of the cage. The new
harnesses wrap around the 1 1/4-inch
steel tube. The stock bucket-style seat
accepts the new harnesses very well
with no modification needed to the
seats. Belt placement holds you firmly
yet comfortably in the seat.
❏; When driving a UTV aggressively,
the stock seat belts really only hold
you firmly in the seat across the lap
and over to one shoulder. Upgrading
your stock seat belts to a four- or
five-point harness system will ensure
you are firmly secured in the seat to
prevent any moving around. These
harnesses work great with most stock
seats without any modification needed to the seat. When choosing the
right set of belts for your machine
you have many options, from 2- or
3-inch-wide straps and four- or five-point attachment points, with or without sewn-in shoulder pads for comfort, along with many color options.
Another option is having an SFI certification for racing use. For our project Arctic Cat Wildcat Sport Limited
we contacted DragonFire Racing to
pick up their new $149.99 harness
bar and a pair of non-SFI-certified,
2-inch, four-point, H-style harnesses
that retail for $109.99 each. On most
UTV cages you can mount a pair of
these new belts onto the stock cage,
while others need some modification.
Those UTVs that need modification
can install a bolt-in harness bar that
ensures the proper placement of the
belts for the stock or aftermarket seats.
The bar is a 1 1/4-inch steel tube with
welded-on harness loops. To round
out the harness system we installed
a pair of submarine belts that we
had laying around from other projects to help cut down on overall costs.
The submarine belts help prevent
you from sliding forward and under
the lap belt, turning your four-point
harness into a five-point harness for
For our Wildcat Sport we removed
the driver and passenger seats and
set them aside to be reinstalled later.
Next you can begin taking the factory
seat belts out; the retractor fastener
is located under the rear fender. The
buckle fasteners are located under
the center-console service panel.
With these items removed you can
now begin to install your harness bar
from DragonFire Racing. Install the
harness bar with the harness loops
on the upper side, bolting in place the
factory seatbelt retractor location with
the supplied hardware torqued to the
recommended spec of 78 foot-pounds.
To install your new harness, you bolt
the lap-belt tabs on the stock buckle
mounting points with the stock hardware. You can now reinstall the seats
for installation of the shoulder straps.
Wrap the straps behind and over the
newly installed bar and feed slack
through the top of the buckle from the
backside and pull tight, then continue
feeding through the buckle. Wrap

Installation took us just over an hour
from start to finish.
With our new belts in our Sport Cat
we hit the trails to test the placement
and comfort of the new harnesses.
The stock seats in the Wildcat are
a bucket without the high sides of
a race bucket allowing you to easily get in and out of the machine,
and the added belt harness keeps
you securely planted in the OEM
seat. The placement of the harness
bar puts the shoulder harness at the
proper angle for the belts to be the
most effective in the event of an accident. Improper placement can result
in severe injuries. Sewn-in shoulder
pads on the new belts feature memory foam to keep you comfortable
on those long drives, preventing the
harness to dig into your shoulder.
Integrated sternum clips help keep
the shoulder straps from moving
around, providing the best safety
at all times. DragonFire offers their
2-inch harness in black or red with
blacked-out hardware; we chose red
to better match our project Sport Cat.
Unlike the Polaris RZRs and Can-Am Commander/Maverick, Arctic
Cat doesn’t require a harness override sensor plug when the stock belts
have been removed. To check out the
