Formally known as the XR line,
Arctic Cat renamed the models to
Alterra. For 2016 there are seven models—from the Alterra 700 XT down to
the Alterra 400. The 700 XT, 550 XT
and 500 XT all come with the same
package options in different engine
sizes. EPS comes standard on all three
models, along with 10 inches of wheel
travel on all four corners through
double-A-arm reservoir suspension.
All three can tow up to 1050 pounds
through a rear 2-inch hitch and come
with 4x4 with diff-lock capabilities.
The difference between them is fast,
faster or fastest with the 700 XT sporting a 695cc four-stroke engine.
The Alterra 700 and 550 are similar
in design to the XT versions, except
they don’t come with standard EPS or
have aluminum wheels and automotive-style paint. Both the 550 and 700
Alterras come in red trim.
The Alterra 450 and 400 are similar to each other in fashion. Both
machines have 7 inches of wheel
travel through coil-over suspension
and have 4x4 capabilities without
differential-locking capabilities. They
also don’t come with rear storage like
their bigger feline siblings do. Red
and green are the only color options
on these base-model machines. They
will pull up to 1050 pounds like every

Heavy-duty front and rear bumpers

The next big-bore contender is the

The HDX 700 Special Edition comes with a Warn winch for sticky situations and
