SEVEN YEARS AGO IN
Our August 2010 issue had the
famous “Modified 450 Shootout.”
The KFX450, DS450, Outlaw 450,
TRX450R, YFZ450 and LT-R450 all
received maximum treatment from
the top race-shop builders. Every
machine was greatly improved in
the power, suspension and handling
So, which machine did the Dirt
Wheels test riders like the best?
Which one could they turn the quickest lap times around our test track?
The Kawasaki took top honors,
thanks to the race-tuning expertise of
Doug Dubach and Jimmy White.
BEFORE & AFTER WILDCAT
Here is the Arctic Cat Wildcat that
belongs to Larry Carrier. The green
version is how it looked stock, and the
red version is how it looks now. It was
the winner of the Pimp My ’Cat contest,
which was a part of the Wicked Wildcat
MLS Powersports in Georgetown,
Kentucky, tore it down to the frame,
built a custom roll cage, powdercoated
everything and installed new plastic.
From there they added Fox RC2 shocks,
a Big Gun exhaust, PRP seats and
harness, DragonFire Racing quick-release steering wheel, SuperATV axles,
No Limit wheels, Sedona Rockabilly
tires, Pace tie-rods, MLS steering rack,
Awesome Off-Road and Sirius lights,
Boss audio system, Bad Dawg storage
box, AMR graphics and more.
Larry would like to thank all the people and companies who helped turn his
’Cat into a work of art.
The longer wheelbase on a four-seat UTV is a home
run when it comes to rough terrain. It allows the car to
bridge across whoops better, and it has more leverage
being that it’s longer. Don’t get us wrong, the two-seat cars are very playful, but there is no discussion
between the two when it comes to racing in the desert.
The four-seat platform is just better.
Lonestar Racing has built such a machine with the
Can-Am X3 Max and performed the chromoly frame
and suspension work to make it a formidable foe. When
finished, this car has 24 inches of travel and 18 inches
of ground clearance. It also has a 45-gallon fuel cell
with dual pumps and dual quick-fills (one on each side
of the car). It handles the roughest terrain at speeds
reaching around 80+ mph! Now that is awesome!
